Child Custody Mediation

If a child custody case is filed, the parents must attend child custody mediation. Only the mediator and the parents attend the child custody mediation. If a child custody case is settled in mediation, the parties will sign the agreement, which will become a court order.

If custody is not settled in child custody mediation, a judge will hear evidence at a trial and determine the type of custody each parent will have. The judge will also assign a visitation schedule by entering a court order (i.e., a child custody order).
